A mentor, 18 years or older, is matched with a child 6 to 16 years old who has a significant person in their life that is currently incarcerated. The mentor meets with the child a few times a month to provide friendship through one-to-one mentoring.
GOAL/MISSION:
To enhance the development of youth in Southwest Washington by matching youth with caring adult volunteers who provide trust, friendship and guidance to the children’s lives.

WHO IS MENTORED?
Our “Littles” are children 6-16 years old, live in Clark, Cowlitz, Skamania and Wahkiakum Counties and have a person in their family household that is currently incarcerated. “Littles” will enjoy exploring their community through a wide variety of experiences such as visiting museums, playing catch in the park or baking cookies.

CURRENT NUMBER OF MENTORS/MENTEES:
Currently, the program has 47 children matched with mentors. We have hired several new Match Support Specialists who are each capable of supporting up to 60 mentor/mentee matches.
WHO CAN MENTOR?
Big Brothers and Big Sisters come from all walks of life. They are nurses, college students, construction workers, firefighters, lawyers, and the list goes on. One thing they all have in common is a willingness to share some fun and friendship with a young person. Mentors must be 18 years or older and are accepted upon completion and passing of application process, which includes: application packet, criminal background check, reference checks, and personal interview. Mentor must have current and valid driver’s license with auto insurance.

General training and program operation are provided by our agency. Additional training and support is provided by agency during the one year commitment.
