Evergreen Mentoring Initiative
Evergreen Mentoring Initiative
Evergreen Mentoring Initiative is a partnership with support of the Department of Education to provide mentoring services in a school based program within the Evergreen School District.
GOAL/MISSION
The mentoring initiative targets 4th to 8th grade students within the Evergreen District with one to one mentoring in a school setting. Participating students receive emotional and academic support and are exposed to new experiences they might not encounter without the caring support of a mentor. Participants meet once a week at the student’s school. Our hope is the project will become self-sustaining by the end of three years.

WHO IS MENTORED?
Students are referred from their teachers, counselors or families. Students are typically between 4th and 8th grade. Our goal is to have nearly 500 students matched with mentors over the next three years.

WHO CAN MENTOR?
We have two programs. Adults are screened by our contracted agency to set up positive matches with like interests between students and mentors. We also have several teen mentor schools where high school students meet with elementary students in a supervised setting after school one day a week. All mentors have a background check. The goal of the background checking and interview is to make matches that work. Ongoing training is offered to help mentors work with their students.

TIME COMMITMENT
Volunteers are asked to make a one year commitment for meeting their students at the school site. Mentors meet with their students once a week for an hour during the school year and once a month during the summer.
